FAQ

ProForno Wood-Fired Oven FAQ
🔥 Do you install the oven or place it where it’s going to be?

Yes! We offer free consultations and estimates for installations of traditional or built-in ovens in most areas of Connecticut. Call us at 203-427-7661 to find the closest retailer or installer near you.

We can also recommend trusted landscapers or outdoor kitchen contractors to complete your setup.

🏋️ Can I pick up the oven myself?

Absolutely! We can recommend the closest retailer for self-pickup. Please note ovens can weigh over 1,200 lbs, depending on the model, so proper equipment and assistance are recommended.

🛠️ Do you offer a warranty?

Yes! Traditional Portuguese ovens may develop small cracks inside or outside — this is normal and does not affect performance.

We include a repair kit so you can easily touch up small cracks at home and keep your oven in top shape.

⏱️ How long does the oven take to heat up?

Typically, your oven will take 45 minutes to reach cooking temperature, depending on the moisture content of your wood.

🔥 What is curing and do I need to do it?

Yes! Curing is essential to remove moisture from the mortar and ensure your oven lasts a lifetime. Applies to both traditional and portable ovens.

Curing Schedule (5 Days):

  • Day 1: 140°F / 60°C – small fire for 4–5 hours
  • Day 2: 215°F / 100°C – repeat
  • Day 3: 300°F / 150°C – repeat
  • Day 4: 400°F / 200°C – repeat
  • Day 5: 480°F / 250°C – repeat

Tip: Close the oven door each night to retain heat and protect against moisture. Minor cracks may still appear — this is normal.

🌳 What kind of wood should I use?

Use hardwoods like walnut, oak, mesquite, apple, or maple for best flavor. Experiment with different woods to create unique flavors for pizzas, breads, and roasted dishes.

🧹 How do I clean the oven?

Once the fire has burned out and the oven is cool, simply sweep out the ashes. Your oven is ready for your next cook.

🔧 What tools do I need for my wood-fired oven?

We offer premium oven tool sets to get started. The tools you need may vary depending on what you’re cooking. Call us for recommendations — we’re happy to guide you!
